About Annotated

Annotated is apparel for the people who can't turn the red pen off — English teachers, school librarians, reading specialists, and everyone who has ever corrected a menu.

This brand has a pretty specific origin story. I grew up grading papers alongside my mom, who spent 30 years as an English teacher. By the time I was in elementary school, I already had opinions about comma splices. Fast forward to my career as an attorney, and I'm still at it — except now I'm editing orders drafted by colleagues, and I have been formally accused of editing too much. (Reportedly, this is not a compliment. I respectfully disagree.)

Annotated started as a love letter to that particular personality type: the one who marks up the margins for fun, defends the Oxford comma like it's personal, and finds genuine joy in a well-placed em dash. We make apparel with the kind of inside jokes that only land if you've lived them — designs specific enough that the right person picks them up immediately and everyone else has to ask.
